It’s our favorite time of year here at Granada: that time of year when patios are at capacity, day drinking is at its peak, and there is literally a festival for everything. Most importantly, it’s the time of year when our homies at Gorilla vs. Bear bring their expertly curated showcase of indie-talent to Granada.
The annual mini-festival, which has seen the likes of White Denim, Glass Candy, Danny Brown, and last year’s headliner Panda Bear, is back and (way) better than ever for its fifth installment. This year’s lineup will feature some true superstars of the ever-changing indie scene like Baltimore synthpop group Lower Dens, and “one of electronic music’s most respected figures…” Jamie xx. “The xx producer, who’s also worked with Adele and Florence + the Machine, fits right in with the tastemaker-friendly bookings of the fest’s previous installments,” (Dallas Observer).
While the aim of some of the summer’s larger (and exponentially more expensive) festivals is simply to pack their bill with the biggest names in music, relevant or not, in an attempt to appeal to anyone who has ever turned on a radio, Gorilla vs. Bear knows that its audience is a bit more discerning and their lineup reflects it. Every single act on the GVB5 bill was meticulously hand picked by Chris Cantalini himself which promises the most cohesive lineup of influential indie artists you’ll see anywhere this year. “I hope this event never goes away, as it’s one of the only nights of the year where it seems like someone here actually gets it, and is not just cynically pandering to the perceived tastes of the day, or trying to hop on someone else’s bandwagon,” (Front Row, D Magazine)
GVB5 rolls in to town on July 31st, but tickets go on sale THIS FRIDAY, and they will go fast.
