I remember it like it was yesterday. I was working in a restaurant and hated it. I begged the manager at Granada repeatedly to give me a job. After jerking me around for like 2 months, I told him straight up, “I’m sick of not working here. I’ll be y’all’s bitch. Anything you don’t like to do, give it to me,” and here we are 6 years later. I was hired for an “entry level custodial position” so basically it was my job and my job alone to clean the bathrooms. These days I work in the marketing office putting together the in house ads you see between bands on the big screens, maintaining the website, and fixing computers.
I guess I should tell y’all some of my favorite Granada moments.
My favorite show was either Deerhunter or Tame Impala. Close tie.
I’ve seen stuff that disappointed me, and stuff that I thought I’d hate and loved. I’ve had to make sure moshpits didn’t get out of hand, break up fights with huge ripped dudes, been punched in the face by an old lady, met several of my heroes, Learned every way possible of sneaking alcohol into a show, and how to spot it, carried people out of the theater having seizures and throwing up on me, developed a taste for several genres I had never liked before, worked backstage, cleaned vomit out of a sink with my bare hands, had random girls kiss me, had random guys kiss me, done construction, made radio ads, made pizza, made the giant cookies for like 2 years, learned how to take printers apart and put them back together, learned basic video editing and graphic design, pulled gum out of the carpet, and a million other things I can’t remember right now. What a long strange trip it’s been.
Here’s the upcoming shows I’m most excited about. Come say hi to me!
The Hood Internet 8/30
Gorilla vs Bear IV 9/12
Black Lips 9/13
Justin Nozuka 9/18
The War on Drugs 9/26
And a bunch more I’m not allowed to tell you about yet
