The end of the spring means the beginning of summer, and with the new season comes new or refreshed outlooks on life, pizza, shows, and whatever else that’s been on your mind. At the beginning of this year, I personally declared 2014 as the “Year of Yes.” Taking that extremely optimistic philosophy and carrying it out throughout the year is a challenge, but one that I’ll risk and have, somehow, convinced the rest of the office to take with me.
With that said, I hereby declare this summer as the Summer of Síngle (heavy underscore on the “sí”). Joining me along on the ride will be our lovely show calendar, who be our wingman, wingwoman, dancing partner, pizza eating buddy, or moral support system where I’ll need it.
May 16th – Nelo, Thieving Birds, & The Novel Ideas
Austin’s own Nelo sold out their last show here in our house, which obviously means good times are guaranteed.
May 17th – Bombay Bicycle Club, Royal Canoe
My favorite thing to do is sleeping, but take my advice and don’t sleep on buying tickets to this since they are moving quite rapidly. The office has had So Long, See You Tomorrow on repeat and we’re ready to start the summer with these English lads.
May 23rd – HeartByrne (Talking Heads Tribute)
Because how many times can you listen to “This Must Be The Place” on repeat before its a crime? The answer can be one million and it still won’t be enough.
May 30th – tUnE-yArDs, Sylvan Esso
Merrill Garbus, I’m ready for your UMPH.
June 22nd – Cut Copy, Classixx
Every once in a while, I still think back on my favorite Granada show a few years ago where Cut Copy headlined and Yannis (of opening band, Foals) almost took a dive from our balcony. With Classixx opening up this time around, this show will most likely be the dance party and my favorite show of the summer because Lights and Music, baby.
August 1st – Ben Kweller
One of our favorite Texans, Ben Kweller, will be playing a hometown show to start off the month of August. If we know anything about Kweller from seeing him, we know he won’t disappoint.
So my guys and gals, I plan on listening to lots of Robyn this summer and dancing on my own for quite a bit. If you’re needing something to celebrate or toast to, let’s just have the summer of 2014 be the reason. Hashtag: year of yes.
