BUY TICKETS NOW TO STEPHEN MALKMUS w PURLING HISS FOR $24
The first time I saw Purling Hiss, they opened up for War on Drugs at Bryan Street Tavern. We weren’t even there to see the headliner. I had been listening to Lounge Lizards obsessively for a few months before that. Something about the lo-fi shredding always warmed my heart. It sounds like he recorded a band practice with an answering machine stuffed in a pillow. Much to my surprise, this was EXACTLY what they actually sounded like live, as they were cranked to the max in that tiny room. I’m pretty sure my ears bled, and I lost some frequencies in my ear permanently. It was well worth it. They even debuted this new song which was a little sweeter and catchier than the rest of their set:
Purling Hiss started out as a solo project for Mike Polizze formerly of Birds of Maya. After self releasing his self titled debut record, he had records picked up on Woodsist, then Mexican Summer, then finally released “Water on Mars” on Drag City, their first full band recording made in a proper studio, which is unfortunately not on spotify. Assholes.
Anyway, Purling Hiss is definitely worth a listen, and seeing Stephen Malkmus(Pavement) the same night for only $24 seems well worth it in my humble opinion.
