Almost a year ago, we did the unthinkable: squeezing various bachelors and bachelorettes together on the Sundown at Granada rooftop and putting our Cupid costumes on to match these guys and gals up with potentially the people of their dreams. All in good spirit, we knew The xx would provide the perfect Valentine’s Day date, so when we saw this opportunity, we said: “why not?” In light of Valentine’s Day this week, we decided to catch up with a few of the participants of the Dating Game last year about their experience.

BACHELOR: MATT BERGERON
What did you expect going into the dating game?
I didn’t really have any expectations. I just wanted to go help put on a show and have a good time.

What were some of your favorite or most memorable questions during the game?
I picked some of the more risque questions from the selection, because I wanted to get some creative and funny answers. I think my favorite was “If you were a piece of clothing, what would you be?”

Was there a specific answer that made you pick the contestant? If so, what was it?
The specific answer was Rachel’s answer to the piece of clothing. Who doesn’t love socks?

Overall, how did the date go?
The date was great. We had gone out for drinks after the game and actually had a lot to talk about, so by the time the show came around I think we were pretty comfortable.

Were there any awkward parts during the date? If so, what was it?
Not awkward at all. Neither of us are shy people and we have a similar sense of humor.

What song best describes your date with the contestant?
Careless Whisper – George Michael

How has the dating game affected your view of blind dates? Would you ever or have you gone on another?
I enjoy blind dates. I find dating gets stagnant and predictable if you go out and seek the same sort of person. I would definitely do it again.

SUITOR: RACHEL KIRKPATRICK
What did you expect going into the dating game?
Going into the dating game, I didn’t expect to get picked haha. I thought it’d be fun to drink mimosas and invite some girlfriends up to drunkenly watch me likely embarrass myself. Mostly, I just expected to have some fun!

What were some of your favorite or most memorable questions during the game?
I think my most memorable question (and, to find out later, my response got me a date!) was “if you could be any article of clothing, what would it be?” (my answer was socks, by the way)

On a scale from Steve Urkel to Stefan Urquelle, how would you rate your date? How do you think they’d rate you?
My date was cute! More of a Stefan with Urkel nerd-skills. I imagine he’d think the same of me? A good-looking nerdo?

Overall, how did the date go?
The date was really fun. It was nice to have dinner at sundown first, kind of loosen up and get to know one another (with the help of boozin’, of course). The remainder of the date was fun, but I felt kind of bad; I’d originally told my date I wasn’t actually the biggest xx fan, and I came to learn he REALLY liked xx. I just swayed a lot. I actually really liked the opener!

What TV show best describes your date? How so?
TV show…hmm…Law & Order SVU. (Kidding!) Probably something on ABC family. PG stuff, it was a fun/sweet date!

How has the dating game affected your view of blind dates? Would you ever or have you gone on another?
I’m game for blind dates, though I don’t usually go at them alone (it’s typically a friend who’s like “oh I’ll bring this one guy”….that’s a blind date, right?) but yea, I’d go on blind dates. Most of my friends like me to a degree, hopefully they’d provide worthy bachelors!

Imagine Doc Brown showed up right now and told you that the two of you had children together, and that he’s met them in the future. What do you think he’d say about them?
Doc Brown: “Mam, it turns out he wasn’t the father….but good-looking offspring!”

Stay tuned the next few days to hear what the rest of the bachelor, bachelorettes, and suitors had to say about their experience. Can we do this again soon?
