With the influx of shows at the Granada this season, it’s hard not to notice the slew of local acts coming to support our headliners. Coincidentally, the following openers are also nominated for several of the Dallas Observer Music Awards, or DOMA’s, in 2011. Check out this list of local opening acts to see what they’re nominated for and how to vote for them.

ALSO– Be sure to vote for the Granada Theater as the Best Venue and the Best Talent Buyer for this year’s Dallas Observer  Music Awards here: . Remember, you can vote more than once as long as you wait 24 hours between each vote!

Datahowler (9/28)

Opening for: Junior Boys

Normal gets you nowhere when you’re Datahowler (Ross Edman). This Dallas native space-beat scientist will be opening this year for Junior Boys, and with good reason. His music sounds like the beat you’d hear in an elevator to the moon. This year he’s up for Best New Act at the DOMA’s as well as Best Electronic/Dance Act. Vote for him here:

Datahowler ::  “Moon Diamond Mining”

Telegraph Canyon (10/6)

Opening for: Blind Pilot

Joining indie favorites Blind Pilot for Granada’s 7th anniversary celebration this fall, Telegraph Canyon brings you a dark, intimate folk vibe. This indie collective is nominated for Best Indie Act and Best Group Act at the DOMA’s, so don’t forget to vote here:

Telegraph Canyon ::  “Safe on the Outside”

Somebody’s Darling (10/7)
Opening for: Cody Canada & The Departed

With a voice like Amber Ferris’s, it’s no wonder Somebody’s Darling will be opening for gritty-country outfit Cody Canada and the Departed. Their southwestern approach to country offers something soulful and new with tiny hints of a what we’d like to call a country Janis Joplin. They’re nominated for Best Alt-Country/Roots Act at the DOMA’s. Vote here:

Somebody’s Darling :: “Another Two Step”

Air Review (10/8)

This band brings evocative indie simplicity at its finest. Opening for Portugal. The Man in October, these guys are nominated for not one, not two, but THREE awards including Best Group Act, Best Indie Act and Best Song “America’s Son” at the DOMA’s. Vote here now:

Air Review :: “America’s Son”

Up for the Best Electronic/Dance act is electronic-sleaze group Ishi. With the release of the song “Disco Queen,” and a new album on the way for 2012, they mean business this time. Vote for them here at:
