You know, the Granada’s 7th anniversary party is coming up on August 3rd, and you’re invited! It’s not every day that we get to celebrate the big number seven, and this year we’re going all out with The Burning Hotels, Ishi, and The Fixx.
If you haven’t heard, the number seven has a lot of significance in anniversaries. Traditionally, seventh anniversary gifts were made of wool or copper to represent prosperity, good luck, durability, security, and warmth. But a nice desk set might be a more practical option these days. The seventh anniversary is also represented by the onyx, yellow sapphire, and golden beryl gemstones, the jack-in-the-pulpit flower, and less fortunately, the “seven-year itch”.
In numerology, the number seven is associated with thought, consciousness and the colors white and yellow, which might be of some help if you can’t decide what color outfit to wear to the Granada anniversary party. Other symbols and stories associated with the number seven include the number of chakras of the human body, Shakespeare’s “Seven Ages of Man”, the Seven Deadly Sins, and the number of notes in the traditional Western Major Scale (which you can experience if you come to the anniversary party on August 3rd, *hint, hint*). We could also make some Uranus jokes, being that it’s the seventh planet from the Sun, but will refrain. Gotta keep it classy.
Just because it’s the seventh anniversary doesn’t mean that the significance of the month of August should be forgotten in lieu of the year. August is also represented by onyx as a birthstone, an alternative to the traditional light green peridot, and falls under the astrological sign of Leo. While you’re celebrating August, you’ll be happy to hear that it’s also National Goat Cheese Month…and believe me, it tastes better on a pizza than you would think.
Of course, if you want to feel a little old, we can look back to 2004 and see which famous kids are going to share this birthday with us. All those Gosselin kids are growing up fast, and are already acting more mature than their parents. Luckily, the Granada doesn’t have to share its anniversary with five other venues that our fans “love just as much” as us.
Possibly even worse than sharing a birthday, little Jackson Duggar now shares his initials with sixteen other siblings and his dad. Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s daughter Apple was also a baby of 2004, and dons a name that some might argue suits a band better than a child.
It seems as if the kids turning seven this year weren’t dealt the best hand in life. Let’s hope Sam Sheen’s veins aren’t half filled with “tiger blood” and that maybe she takes after her actress mother, Denise Richards, more than her dad. Though Coco Arquette seems to be one of the few seven-year-olds whose parents haven’t gone crazy, we can commiserate with a girl who was only given an abbreviation of her mom’s own name, Courtney Cox.
Now, while you try to forget that kids born in 2004 are already about halfway to driving age, just remember that the Granada Theater 7th Anniversary Party is going to be spectacular. But it will be even better if you’re there to roll a lucky number 7 with us at the craps table.
