The other day a fellow female Granada employee and myself had to leave the office early to work an event downtown.  That meant that the boys were left to fend for themselves and take charge of the office. I mistakenly left my blackberry at my desk and had to run back and get it. When I opened the door, I was immediately caught off guard by the female pop voice I heard blaring through the speakers. I looked at the boys and not only were they listening to pop music, but they seemed to really like it.  I made a wise crack to them, we all talked about how catchy her songs are and I was on my way.

That is the thing about Marina and the Diamonds.  Even though most of us at the Granada cringe at the thought of another “pop” artist, we cannot help but shake our heads, sing her lyrics and want to start a dance party when we listen to Marina. She is one of those artists who you don’t think you know much about but then you start listening to her songs and realize how many tracks you recognize.

Marina Lambrini Diamandis is known on stage as Marina and the Diamonds and is on her way to being one of the next big artists out there.  She references her fans as “Diamonds” (hence where the name comes from).  Influenced by anyone from PJ Harvey to Britney Spears, Marina describes her sound as an alternative to mainstream pop music.  Most commonly compared to Florence and the Machine, her vocal ability and attitude are what make her stand out in addition to her unique attire.  She describes her fashion style as vintage, cheerleader and cartoon.  Regardless of what she wears and what category she is thrown into, one thing is for sure…….Any chick singer who can get a couple of guys comfortable enough to want to dance to pop music is ok in my book!

Insight: Take my word from us music snobs in the office……..Marina and the Diamonds is a show you will want to be at.  We are all going to be there, dancing and bobbing up and down like little kids so you should to.

Warning: Once you hear her music, you will not be able to get her infectious, catchy tunes out of your head.
