This is a new series on the Granada blog that features the opening bands. Opening bands can be a pleasant surprise. One day you are watching a band with a couple hundred people and the next thing you know they’re playing the Grammys. MGMT Frightened Rabbit, The Avett Brothers and Matt & Kim have all been opening bands here. So come early! You never know, you could be seeing the next big thing.

Cold Cave (opening for The Kills 4/19) just released their second LP Cherish The Light Years and the band describes it as a “love letter to the city that never sleeps”. The band has refined their sound to more of a darker, more apocalyptic & brutal 80s dark-wave. Their first single “The Great Pan is Dead” hits you fast and hits you hard. The drums sound like a machine gun while frontman Dominich Fernow’s voice channels a younger Robert Smith.

It’s fast paced. It’s romantic. It’s electronic synth-core for those who don’t mind staying up past 3 AM on a Tuesday night. If you are a fan of The Cure, The Big Pink, or even The xx; definitely give Cold Cave a good listening to. They are streaming their new album now on their website (http://matadorrecords.com/uk/widgets/coldcave/cherishthelightyears/).

“If you like to dance, dance, dance to the radio, think that boys don’t cry, enjoy the silence now and then or feel blue on Mondays, there is no fucking reason not to be into this awesome record. You should be able to get it basically everywhere. ”

Be sure to catch Cold Cave opening for The Kills 4/19. Amazingly enough, there are still tickets available for this show. Don’t miss it!.
